Wine from Moldavia:History: One of oldest and best tradition in the Republic of Moldau is the wine growing. The tradition of wine growing has a long history between the Dnestr and the Prut rivers. A long time ago the "Thrazien" grape was cultivated for example in Makedonia and Greece. The wine growing survived different social changes in Moldau in the last centuries. So the people think, that the possibility to grow wine shows you the character of a person. In the Republic of Moldau wine grapes grouth on each corner, so everybody press wine in the backyards of their houses. The climat of Moldau is very special for wine growing. A lot of sun and very good soil are a good basic for wine growing. Growing areas:Mostly the land is poltry with a lot of hills. The low ascents brings the sun from all sides. In this case it is very easy to cultivate the hills manual or with tecnical help. The Republic of Moldau is providing the continental climat zone, with the Black Sea close by. We have short mild winters and long hot summers with a lot of sun. For the wine growing very good are sunny autumns. A light air have the possibility to hit the plants against fungal attacks. Akin in the "Burgund" in France, Moldau has the same position(45-48...), what is very good for wine growing. We have 4 different wine growing areas in Moldau:
- Bălţi in the north I the beginning of the 90th the wine growing became an important economic factor for the county. A lot of new jobs were created in this time. A high quality is guaranteed. At the moment a lot of money is spending to the deployment of growing wine, and the technical equipment for a stability in the production. The European grape varieties Aligote, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Müller-Thurgau, different Muscats, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Traminer are famous all over the world. The most famous domestic grape varieties are Feteasca-Alba, Feteasca Regala(Muscat), Plavai, Feteasca Neagrara and Rara Neagra.
